This is a 16 hour course that must be completed within 90 days of employment as a security guard. The course provides the student with detailed information on the duties and responsibilities of a security guard. Topics covered in this course include the role of the security guard, legal powers and limitations, emergency situations, communications and public relations, access control, ethics and conduct, incident command system, and terrorism. Students must achieve a minimum passing score of 70% on the examination in order to successfully complete the course. This course is being offered in collaboration with Able Center for Training, LLC, an approved DCJS program.

This New York State Certified Firearms Course is for registered security guards who wish to carry a firearm in the course of their duties. This course includes seven hours of classroom instruction in the Use of Force (NYS Penal Law Art. 35) followed by a written examination, and 40 hours on the firing range followed by weapons qualification. It is a comprehensive program, teaching the basic safety rules, fundamentals of shooting, tactical shooting, care and cleaning. Each participant will have to obtain a minimum of 70% on all shooting exercises and written testing.

Please remember to bring: Pistol License and Security Guard License, service style weapon of choice, 3 magazines, service style belt and gun holster, magazine pouches, small tactical flashlight and 500 rounds of ammunition for your qualifying weapon. Also bring eye and ear protection. 

Holders of an Armed Guard Registration Card must annually complete an 8 Hour Annual In-Service Training Course for Armed Security Guards.Topics include the role of the security guard, legal powers and limitations, emergency situations, communications and public relations, access control, and ethics and conduct. Part of the course will cover the proper use of force including deadly physical force (NYS Penal Law Art. 35). In order to complete this course students must achieve a minimum passing score of 70% on the examination, followed by weapons qualification. This course is being offered in collaboration with Able Center for Training, LLC, an approved DCJS program.

Please remember to bring: Retired Police ID, Pistol License, weapon(s) of choice, magazines, holster(s) and 50 rounds of ammunition for each weapon you are qualifying with. 

 

This is an 8 Hour Annual Training Course for Unarmed Security Guards that must be completed within 12 calendar months of completion of the 16 Hour On-the-Job Training Course for Security Guards, and annually thereafter. The course is structured to provide the student with updated and enhanced information in regards to the duties and resposibilities of an unarmed security guard. Topics include the role of a security guard, legal powers and limitations, emergency situations, communications and public relations, access control and ethics and conduct. Students must achieve a minimum passing score of 70% on the examination in order to successfully complete the course. This class is being offered in collaboration with Able Center for Training, LLC an approved DCJS program. 

This is an 8 hour course required by New York State as the first step in obtaining a security guard registration card from the New York  Department of State. The course provides the student with a general overview of the duties and responsibilities of a security guard. Topics covered in this course include the role of the security guard, legal powers and limitations, emergency situations, communications and public relations, access control, and ethics and conduct. Students must achieve a minimum passing score of 70% on the examination in order to successfully complete the course. This course is being offered in collaboration with Able Center for Training, LLC, an approved DCJS program.

The Security Instructor Development Certification Course (IDC) is a 40-hour training course mandated by the NYS Division of Criminal Justice Services in order to become a Certified Security Guard Instructor.  Applicants can receive up to 30 points for three years of employment experience.  Successful completion of this Instructor Development Course (IDC) will count as 40 points.  Applicants will have the 70 points required to apply for the Security Guard Instructor Application, which must be submitted to DCJS along with the $500 Certification Fee.

Successful completion of this course certifies the student to conduct training at New York State approved security guard training schools. The goal of this course is to assist instructor candidates in developing the ability to research, prepare and deliver the highest quality professional security related instruction.

 

This is the class that provides “Instructor” certification for Security Guards in General Topics, which include:

  • 8-hour Pre Assignment
  • 16-hour On Job Training (OJT) 
  • 8-hour Annual In Service,

These courses are all mandated for licensed Armed and Unarmed security guards by the New York State Department of Criminal Services working in New York State.

-This course is also the prerequisite in becoming a NYS CERTIFIED Firearms Instructor, as well as other specialties.

 

This Instruction is facilitated by a former NYPD Sergeant who is a DCJS certified Master Instructor with 24 years of Law Enforcement experience, who supervised the NYPD’s Instructor Development Unit, responsible for ensuring that all members of the NYPD receive the highest quality professional instruction.

 

Cancellation Policy

Please be aware that if you do not arrive by 15 minutes after your registered class start time your seat may be given to another student and you will need to reschedule for another day. Able Center for Training does not guarantee that there will be seats available on the day of the course for walk-in clients who do not pay in advance. If you need to cancel or reschedule your pre-paid class, for any reason, you must text 866-225-3697 or email info@actrainingny.com no less than 72 hours before your class day and you will be rescheduled with no extra charges. Please be aware if less than 72 hours’ notice or you do not show for your pre-paid class you will be charged $20 and need to reschedule.

 

Note: Those attending the 40 Hour IDC are required to bring the following:

  1. A laptop computer with Microsoft Word and Microsoft PowerPoint.
  2. A laptop charger for the above laptop.
  3. A notebook and pen or pencil.

 

 

New Jersey State Concealed Carry consists of classroom training and live fire training. This course will meet or exceed the standards set by NJ CCARE Protocol for applying for a Conceal Carry Permit in New Jersey.

Classroom training will review Use of Force Interim Training for Private Citizen Concealed Carry and Firearms Safety and Awareness Interim Training.

Range time will consist of familiarization of safe firearm handling, proper loading and unload techniques, proper concealed carry draw and techniques of good marksmanship.

 Permit holders: Please remember to bring Pistol of choice, Magazines, Conceal Holster, eye and ear protection, and 100 rounds of ammunition.

 No SIMS will be accepted.

The New York State Concealed Carry or “CCW” class is being offered in collaboration with Able Center for Training, LLC. Students will attend 16 hours of classroom training and 2 hours of Live Fire training, for a total of 18 hours. This class will meet or exceed the standards set by NYS for applying for a Conceal Carry Permit. The course will be given over 2 days. The class is taught by New York State DCJS Certified Firearms Instructors. You do not need a pistol permit to attend this class.

Permit holders: Please remember to bring Pistol License, pistol of choice, magazines, conceal holster, eye and ear protection and 50 rounds of ammunition. 

Non-Permit holders: Please bring eye and ear protection. 

Course Description:

This is a 4-hour classroom-based course taught by NRA-certified & Utah BCI-certified firearms instructors. Upon successful completion of the course students are eligible to apply for the Utah Concealed Carry Permit.  

 Benefit and Usage:

Thirty-Six (36) states in total honor the Utah concealed carry permit, making it one of the most coveted concealed carry permits due to this multi-state reciprocity.  

 Course instruction includes the following topics: 

Handgun Safety Rules, Handgun Parts and Operation, Fundamentals of Shooting, Safe Storage of Firearms and Ammunition Handling, Utah Criminal and Traffic Code, Reciprocity and Recognition, Civil vs Criminal Liability and more.
